Doors 6.30pm, 7pm film start. Heritage Hub, Kirkstile, Hawick, TD9 0AE.

Molloy and Lawlor (aka Desperate Optimists) introduce us to Ambrosio O’Higgins, First Marquis of Osorno, an adventurer who departed Ireland with small ambitions and ended up as Captain General of Chile and Viceroy of Peru. O’Higgins’ tale is but one part of this idiosyncratic work however, as the film moves through essayistic passages, dramatic imaginings and documentary modes. Contemplating migration, photography, and critiquing the clichés of narrative filmmaking, Further Beyond seamlessly weaves together a fascinating complete work that is somewhere between fact and fiction.

“In an age of cautious, cookie-cutter comic-book franchises and safe-bet awards bait, this is essential viewing.” – The Guardian (*****)

Tickets are £5. Advance booking is available here.

Next screening: No Home Movie on Fri 8 December.
